Autumn color!
Most people have some idea how much fun it is to attempt to capture the glorious colors of Autumn. But are you aware of the challenges this presents. Somehow, the camera does not always capture the amazing colors that you are witnessing. Cameras seem to reproduce the shadows darker than you see them and often bright sunny areas of the scene are washed out.
One of the places we visited was the Quechee Gorge. Some have called it Vermont's "little Grand Canyon".
I don't know if I would describe it that way, but it is impressive.

We also had an opportunity to ride the Green Mountain Railroad (in the Green Mountains of Vermont).
Moving on to New Hampshire, we stopped at a mansion called "the castle in the clouds". Castle in the Clouds (or Lucknow) is a 16-room mansion and 5,500-acre (2,200 ha) mountaintop estate in Moultonborough, New Hampshire owned and operated by the Castle Preservation Society, a private 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. It overlooks Lake Winnipesaukee and the Ossipee Mountains from a rocky outcropping of Lee Mountain formerly known as "The Crow's Nest". The home was built in 1913-1914 in the Craftsman Style by millionaire shoe manufacturer Thomas Gustave Plant (1859-1941) for his second wife, Olive Cornelia Dewey.
A few more photos to finish this experience.
After all the color, which was stunningly beautiful, I simply had to compose an image in black and white.
I still love the classic photographs of the past done in black and white and tones of grey.

If you are interested in planning a trip to enjoy Autumn color, I highly recommend Vermont and New Hampshire. Some other places that are excellent as well are: Maine, Michigan's Upper Peninsula (Western half especially), Aspen, Colorado, Great Smoky Mountains, Glacier National Park, Montana and Berkshires of Massachusetts.
