We flew into Rapid City, then drove to Wall, South Dakota for the Badlands National Park. This is a large and amazing national park whose real beauty comes alive from about two hours before sunset through sunset. Unfortunately, we did not experience a gorgeous sunset while there on this trip. But the late evening light was great and we enjoyed the park without it being too hot. We did get to see some mountain sheep.

Custer State Park
Custer State Park is very large and serves as a protected area for a variety of wildlife. You can drive the wildlife loop road and you are likely to see bison. Pronghorn antelope are less common, but you may see them. Bears, deer and marmots can sometimes be seen.
We took an off-road Jeep through the park and were able to get close to the bison. We found them at a watering hole and saw babies as well.
